Weddings for Older Couples & The More Mature

Weddings for older couples and the mature can be as much fun as weddings for younger folk and why yours can rock in Northern Ireland and ROI.

Planning your wedding day too as you might have grown-up sons and/or daughters on hand to help out. A few times I was booked as a wedding photographer and videographer. Even though this couple’s first dance was a slow burner it had the guests watching and then the bridal party joined in followed by the guests.

Older weddings can range from middle-aged up to senior citizens although usually middle-aged! I’ve photographed a few wedding ceremonies for older couples and it is as good a day as any although the groom might need to go for a quick kip (ie sleep) after the dinner and before the first dance, haha, yes that’s happened on a wedding I’ve shot.

Mature Couple Wedding Photos

I’ve shot a mature couple wedding photos before, a few times actually, including Marian and Tony’s Flagstaff Lodge wedding, Liz and Richard’s Carrickfergus wedding, Linda and Peter’s Ballydugan Mill wedding and also not forgetting a Belfast City Hall wedding. All older couples getting married in completely different locations and different numbers of guests attending, a couple at around 70 guests, another at about 30 guests and lastly a get-together at around 6 guests, yes 6 and that’s including the Bride and Groom! Great days had by all and I’m super glad I was booked. Their mature couple's wedding photos worked out priceless.

You might have the advantage of plenty of help

If it’s a bit difficult for an older couple wedding including the ceremony and reception planning their big day there might be plenty of help close by. Well-thought-out decisions can make the wedding of a more mature couple delightful for both themselves and their guests. As an older couple, you have the advantage of not having to deal with someone else picking up the tab which allows you to express your tastes and personalities. But keep in mind that a low budget is not the only reason for having a small wedding, in this case, it may be preferable and more appropriate. Weddings for older couples can rock too, here’s the proof. Some Wedding Photos from previous shoots are below.

Wedding Ceremony for Older Couple

Some examples of a wedding ceremony for an older couple are below in some of my photos. As you can see their grown-up kids are included in the ceremony as their part of the bridal party. Some even have kids themselves so it makes for a truly unique experience. Embrace your age and let’s take some wedding photos. Have a watch through this older couple’s wedding from start to finish.

Mature Couple Wedding

Liz and Richard’s mature couple's wedding in Northern Ireland had both ceremony and reception in the hotel itself. We had met before for their pre-wedding. Firstly I made my way to Liz’s daughter’s house for some bridal prep photos which was thankfully not too far away from the hotel. Groom prep was not needed as Richard was helping organise things behind the scenes as he had a few guests and family members, including his mum, travelling up from the South of Ireland. Liz was understandably, as we would all be, a wee bit nervous at this stage but improved throughout the day.

Old Couple Getting Married

After bridal prep, the limo arrived to bring the girls to the ceremony in preparation of the old couple getting married. The ceremony commenced and everything was very well organised so less stress throughout the day. Afterwards, we shot a couple of group shots of all the guests in attendance at the entrance then headed into the reception area for some very quick family photos.

Before the speeches commenced we shot the cutting of the cake and afterwards, I think everyone would agree, the dinner was outstanding. When everyone settled down a little I took some casual photos of guests at their respective tables. The Bride and Groom hit the dance floor for their first dance and then the bridal party and relatives joined in too, all good craic and jolly good fun, all in all, a good day by all. All the best with your future together Liz and Richard, thanks for booking me.

Older Couple Wedding Ideas

Older couple’s wedding ideas can vary with the couple wanting different ideas of course but what about including personal items in your wedding decor? What about photos of your grandchildren and perhaps even your grown-up kids? Although this might be a bit embarrassing for them. Might be just best to stay with you as a couple and work on some ideas.
