Rustic Wedding Videography in Ballydugan Mill

Rustic Wedding Video in the Ballydugan Mill with Linda and Peter, as the couple booked me for a full day highlights film and wedding video in Downpatrick. Starting with bridal preparations in Castlewellan, we made our way to the couple's wedding, and during the speech, a Westlife Nicky Byrne speech (pre-recorded).

In the morning, I arrived for some bridal preparation video footage at Linda’s house, about 10 minutes away in Castlewellan. The girls were already there, making an early start and were having great fun! I could only stay for a brief time before I made my way to The Mill at Ballydugan, where Peter and his son were already there, so I grabbed some groom preparation video footage in their room. I also filmed some exterior clips of the venue.

After filming some of the interior and exterior with the drone for a bird's eye perspective, the guests started arriving. The room was well decorated and had exposed beams, which made the room more interesting for the couple's video.

Filming the Ceremony with two Cameras and Audio Recorders

At this stage, the guests were arriving, so I grabbed some small video footage too.  I knew the bridal party was arriving soon, so I headed upstairs to set up for the ceremony.  The celebrant was there, so I attached a microphone to his jacket as well as a microphone to record some audio.  It is much better to do this rather than rely on the camera's audio.  It’s a much clearer audio.  The ceremony commenced as the music started, and Linda walked down the aisle with her daughter.

The ceremony was conducted by humanist celebrant Stewart Holden and was jolly good fun, telling the story of how they met and some family history, too. Afterwards, we made our way close by for the photo shoot and got some behind-the-scenes (BTS) footage.

Look at my The Mill at Ballydugan video screengrabs from this wedding video, as you’ll find a broad range of emotions, ranging from the groom's preparations in one of the rooms to the ceremony ending with the couple’s first dance. The venue itself was an 18th-century flour mill in the past and offers a unique take on your wedding video.

Videoing The Reception with two Cameras

Everyone was called in, and Linda and Peter arrived to a standing ovation from guests, making for a great and EPIC entrance for their wedding video. The layout was a little different as there was no top table, so the speeches from Linda and Peter commenced and ranged from fun to super fun! It was a little cramped but filmable.

There was a surprise pre-recorded message on the projector by famous Irish singer Nicky Byrne from the super Irish group Westlife, as Linda is a massive fan. Some great advice from the big man himself!

Filming the First Dance

Mothers Little Helpers was the wedding band, and they didn’t disappoint as the dancing started with the bridal party and other guests joining in afterwards, which was great to see. I filmed this with a two-camera set-up and plenty of audio recorders. Having two cameras filming is essential, and any professional filmmaker should be doing this. The room was on the roof of the building, so you could see more exposed beams, which was great for the video.

The proceeding was jolly good fun as they are both a little bit older.  The room itself was nice and rustic, showing the wooden beams on the ceiling.  Made for very rustic filming.  Afterwards, I filmed a bit outside.  All in all, it's one of the best weddings I have filmed.  Hope you have a great future together, Linda and Peter. All the best, and thanks for booking me.
