Wedding Videographer Northern Ireland

I only take on a limited number of wedding videos each year so if you are lucky that I’m free and available on your day book me as soon as possible. My current times are 3-4 weeks after the filming but could be delayed in the summer months. Receipts will be provided.

OVER 7 YEARS EXPERIENCE

Wedding Videography

I travel all over the province filming wedding videography. Much of the day is filmed as your wedding unfolds and I’m interested in incorporating words spoken on the day which adds some extra depth and emotion. Sometimes it’s from the ceremony, speeches, a reading, vows or even letters given to each other in the morning. Thank you for considering me.

I am aiming to film cinematic wedding videos in my wedding videos as I’m not interested in filming like on a large camcorder from yesteryear where everything is in focus all the time.

If you are outside of NI and are seeking a wedding videographer contact me. Katherine and Damian both live in Australia and wanted to get married and have their reception here so Katherine booked me through email for their wedding video.

I produce the best wedding videography in Northern Ireland and aim to be the best wedding videographer so stay tuned for updates. If you doubt if you should have a wedding video have a quick read through my blog post.

As well as wedding videography in the province I also work as a wedding videographer in Belfast as the city has many venues and locations on offer. Thank you.

PLAY THE INTRODUCTION. Thought I’d get behind the camera for a change for a quick wedding video introduction and say a quick hello to the lovely bride and grooms considering a wedding video and film. Some behind-the-scenes (BTS) of myself filming a ceremony.

Wedding Video

Below is what you get and a link to an example on this website or my wedding video YouTube channel. There are more examples to come so come back to this page in the future.

  1. Bridal prep

  2. The ceremony was filmed with two cameras (this may not be the whole ceremony but I will film as much as I can)

  3. Reception

  4. Speeches filmed with two cameras (this may not be the whole speech but I will do my best to film as much as I can, if I have not recorded parts from either A or B cameras I will be recording sound)

  5. The first dance was filmed with two cameras

  6. Drone video footage (location permitting, weather and time-dependent)

Some technical details

If you want to know more about the technical details of wedding videos let’s delve right in

  1. The wedding videos are 4k footage and filmed throughout the day with as much as the ceremony and speeches as I can film saved separately, about two to three hours long (2 - 3 hours). Unfortunately, things can happen during filming your wedding so I may need to move myself filming the A camera or move the B camera (which is filming on a tripod)

  1. All audio recordings ie ceremonies, readings and speeches are synced to video for better superior sound.

  2. A wedding highlights video of your day which is not long at about eight to fifteen minutes (8-15mins). This is a creative edit so sequences and video clips are all out of sequence. This is meant to convey your wedding day and you simply can’t condense 2 hours worth of footage into a video highlight wedding. I believe the length to be the best balance while including all the key moments of your day.

Some DON’T give you all the footage

Some wedding videographers DON’T give you all the video footage for some reason so be careful who you book. As an example, I read a bride mentioning she got her wedding video after waiting a year (which is far too long!) and it is 24 minutes long. It’s not a highlights wedding video and most of the video is covered by music so you can’t hear the mass or conversations at bridal prep, about 40% of the speeches are covered and you can’t hear the band playing the first dance. Maybe they have stated this in their wedding videography packages but I'd check the original contract. Your wedding videographer should have been clear with you about what you can expect from your video. I include a full ceremony, full speeches, other videos filmed throughout the day and a highlights video in all my packages.

Top Wedding Video Tips

Why you should avoid (most of the time) looking into the lens for video. On the wedding day, it's better not to look into the wedding videographer’s camera and lens and I would be more interested in natural movement and something less posed and certainly less static. Wedding footage needs a bit more movement than still images as I’m shooting at 24fps (frames per second). Your wedding videographer must have the correct video equipment for various reasons.

What I need

I need footage that has more movement and less static which means something like chatting to the bridesmaids, family and guests or doing something eg walking and holding hands as wedding footage works best when you don’t even know you are being recorded! It looks a bit odd if you smile into the lens of the wedding videographer as there would be about 5-second clips filmed throughout the day, although the odd wee’ glance is perfectly fine and ok though.

Below is a wedding video example that I have edited and produced using footage from the couples’ day with audio recordings linked to the video footage filmed. It’s essential to record audio as I’ve seen several wedding videographers not record audio which is completely nuts.

Wedding Highlights Video

Another example, of a wedding highlights video that I have produced using footage from the day with audio again synced to the video footage for superior sound than if you simply record using the built-in camera mic, which is pretty much the worst thing you can do. You must book a wedding videographer all day instead of just a part of the day as you’ll miss so much.

Last Minute Wedding Videographer

I may be available for a last-minute wedding video if you have left it a bit late as this has happened in the past a couple of times. I was booked by this great couple and I’m super glad they booked as they received a wedding highlight film along with hours of video footage and audio from bridal prep up to that killer must-have first dance that I’m sure will be cherished for a long time.

Northern Ireland Wedding Videos

I run a video production service so I’ll provide a breakdown of Northern Ireland wedding videos as they contain not just one but several videos some of which are filmed from certain camera angles I will be showing you, breaking down and explaining about this in the following section. This can, of course, be applied to Ireland too as I work mostly in NI I will focus on these examples. Some parts like the ceremony, speeches and first dance have 2 cameras recording, my own and another camera on a tripod filming wide which I call B camera.

Watch a Wedding Video

Let’s look at an actual wedding video. This is a 10-15 minute highlights video with moments from various parts of the day edited together in one clip. This is ideal for sharing online as it is one video as opposed to various videos that can be quite time-consuming to watch all of and not everyone has the time anyway. Feel free to play an individual wedding video from any of these. They don’t focus on one particular part of the day and they also use audio recording too.

What is my favourite?

At the moment Joanne and Michaels’s wedding video is my most viewed closely followed by Linda and Peter’s. You can check out both for yourself in those two links. As well as highlights they also got all additional wedding videos including all footage filmed and audio.

How long is a wedding video?

My wedding videos are generally 2-3 hours long as you get a highlights video plus all additional coverage filmed from my two 4k cameras which I use at the ceremony, speeches and first dance. This is essential as you’ll get coverage from a different angle and perspective. PLAY VIDEO

The Wedding Video

Each wedding video takes a while to craft and is not just cobbled together in no time. Each video takes time and care telling the story of your day through video and audio.

A wedding video filmed in Cookstown from bridal prep up to the Australian and Irish groom’s first dance.

The wedding video started in Letterkenny ending in Kesh where the couple had their ceremony outside beside the water.

A wedding video filmed in both Castlewellan and Ballydugan Mill on a great summer day was from start to finish.

This was filmed in both Enniskillen and Kesh on a wet day which thankfully cleared up in the evening.

I filmed throughout Omagh with a reception in Glenparks marquee for this couple’s wedding video which was a delight from start to finish.

The couple’s wedding video with a ceremony in their church and portraits in the Carrickdale.

Screengrabs and video capture from some of my favourite wedding videos in Northern Ireland. I could show dozens and dozens of screen captures showcasing the couple’s wedding day but I have just chosen a select number of captures from each part of the day, enjoy.

This particular wedding video is from an island wedding I filmed. Both the ceremony and reception were held here and bridal prep was in Joanne’s family’s house earlier. As you can tell from the screengrabs the wedding video is stunning with plenty of guests in attendance. I filmed from prep up to the couple’s first dance. What a day!

Why you should book me as your Wedding Videographer

“I’d vote for a wedding videographer for everything you get rather than tiny snippets. Video will also stand the test of time I think. I regret not having a videographer, so many of our friends talk about watching the video or teasers time and time again! I’d recommend”

“Professional audio, lighting, editing and so much more is not possible with an iPhone. Audio is the absolute top priority for vows and speeches as these may be completely missed with a content creator”

“I'd vote wedding videographer as they will get a bit of both depending on the package you go for. Most will do highlight for you which is what a content creator would get but then they'll also have a slightly longer video of the day for you with better audio and lighting etc. We got married 3 weeks ago and I thought I would only want the highlight reel and maybe 45 minutes to an hour of footage but the day goes so quickly that part of me wishes I got the whole day recorded! It's the only way you can properly relive parts of your day again so I would recommend a videographer”

“I got a video done and it was the best decision we made. The day does like a whirlwind and it means you see so much of it and it's something to have for life. We get a highlight video which is shorter and able to show people. It gives you the flow of the day and is what people I know who didn't book one regretted”

Cinematic Wedding Videographer

I am to be a cinematic wedding videographer but what does this mean? It has more to do with your 8-15-minute highlights film than your actual wedding videos. You need a good quality lens for this as you need to film mostly wide open at f/1.8 aperture preferably with some movement and with something in the foreground that can be blurred out (which is why filming wide open at f/1.8 is ideal. A basic wedding video just doesn’t cut it I’m afraid.

The difference between wedding cinematography and videography

It’s not just the way your cinematic wedding film has been filmed it’s also the way it’s been edited. Basic wedding videographers don’t spend much time editing, actually very little. On the other hand, cinematographers spend a lot of time in post-production editing to create a more polished therefore cinematic film.

Wedding Content Creator

The new buzzword going about at the moment is a wedding content creator in Northern Ireland and Ireland. What is this though?

Wedding Videographer or Content Creator?

Should you book a wedding videographer or a wedding content creator? If you're wondering if should you book a wedding content creator instead of a professional videographer I’d recommend against this for so many reasons. Actually, under no circumstances book a content creator like this! This is simply a fad (started in the States I’m sure) and will be just horrendous in the future. This is a person with no video or audio skills running around with an iPhone (or smartphone) like a headless chicken filming your day, something like what a guest or Uncle Bob could do. The audio will be terrible too and they say audio is half the experience. I would strongly recommend against a content creator. On the flip side, you could book a wedding content creator along with a wedding videographer which makes a bit more sense if that’s what you want. The advantage is you may get your footage very quickly to you. On the downside, this will be lots of random video clips from throughout the day. Let’s compare the kind of gear a professional wedding videographer should have to a wedding content creator.

A Wedding Videographer

A professional wedding videographer should have a decent amount of equipment to let them do their profession.

  • Two cameras filming important parts of the day

  • Professional grade full frame 4k cameras including lens

  • Various audio mics on cameras and also audio recordings on officiant (minister, priest, humanist celebrant) groom, speeches and musicians

  • Highlights film creating a story of your day

  • Video footage with audio synced for superior sound

A Content Creator

A wedding day content creator is very lightweight in comparison.

  • An iPhone

Frequently Asked Questions

Some wedding video FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) are below. Anything else or any other queries just contact me.

How long does the wedding video take to get?

It will take 4 to 5 weeks to get, this could be a bit longer in the summer months due to the busy season but I will still try my best to have it ready in 4 to 5 weeks.

Do you film with a drone?

Yes, I film with a drone, this depends on the weather and time.  There is generally just some footage with the drone.

Can I pick music?

I will try to use whatever music you have picked for your first dance but the version I have on my website and social media may be different due to copyright issues.

Will the video be uploaded?

Yes, the video will be uploaded on my website, social media and YouTube.  If you want me to tag you on social media please let me know otherwise I don’t.  If you don’t want me to upload any video please don’t book me.

Is this your real job?

Yes, it certainly is.

Can I make changes?

No there can’t be changes due to the time it takes to make changes ie ages, but if you have any requirements brief me BEFORE the day.

What if I want to make the highlights video longer?

You can’t as that would no longer be a highlights video.  A highlight video should be a short concise video of your day, not dragging on any particular part of the day.  All footage and audio will be saved separately.

Are you looking fed?

Yes if I could be fed and watered at tea time at the bar that would be great, even a snack would be super.

How can we book?

Please read all the info on this page and then contact me first to check if I’m available.  To book me visit wedding video booking.

Are you insured?

Yes, I am. The majority of reputable wedding videographers will have insurance in place including video equipment, professional indemnity and public liability.
