Lurgan Park Family Photos with Props

Lurgan Park Family Photos with props, as I met Daiva, partner, their young son and baby daughter in the entrance of the park in the summer. I could see that the parents brought some props with them, which was great.

This is meant to be one of the largest urban parks in Northern Ireland. The park is known as a hidden gem. There are some events here during the summer months. It is located beside a man-made lake with plenty of swans on show and jetties scattered around the lake for fishermen and families to sit and enjoy a picnic. Not too far away is Brownlow Castle. There are also the tennis courts over to one side of the park and a kids’ play park. It’s all well-maintained by Craigavon Borough Council.

Mono image of the family sitting at the fountain, smiling at the camera.

Fun Captured at the Kids’ Playground

We took a walk towards the swings and the kids’ playground, where I captured images of the kids playing on the swings. Obviously, the baby daughter was too young for that, but she lay on a wider swing where her mum could see her. The swings and play area give them something to do and play with, so these are more fun than simply posing kids. Everyone who has kids knows they don’t sit too long, ha ha!

Fun Family Pictures at the Jetty using Props

After some super fun photos in the play area, we moved towards the jetty at the side of the park. The parents brought different props for blowing bubbles and inflating balloons. This gave the kids something to do, and I can capture them doing the activities with these props. There was no shortage of areas within walking distance, so you don’t need to venture outside the park. Always important when photographing children that the parent(s) keep an eye on their children. I tried to think of the usual variations in walking, standing, posing and sitting down to break the photos up a bit with the bonus of having props they brought too. All the best, Daiva.

Prop ideas that you can bring with you

The family brought some great props for the son and baby to play with. We casually walked around the park, spent a little time on the swings and ended up at the jetty beside the lake for some fun pictures. The props they brought worked out great, as they gave the young son and baby something to hold and play with, interacting with the two parents.

If you are stuck for some prop ideas, then I have compiled a few ideas below. Props make your photos more interesting as your child or children can bring some toys to act as props within the images. This gives them something to do and interact with others rather than looking at the camera and smiling. Even a baby can play with some props or toys. It would help if you were careful with toddlers and toys, and they should all be baby-friendly. I’ve compiled a short list of prop ideas below. If there is anything else you can think of for your shoot, make a note in the comments below.

  1. Toys

  2. Clothes

  3. Scrabble tiles

  4. Balloons

  5. Picture frames

  6. Chair

  7. Blankets

  8. Bubbles

  9. Musical instruments

As you can see from above, there are endless possibilities for sessions; the only real limit is your imagination and the transportation of props from your home to the location where you want them. There are many small things you can bring, such as small toys and balloons (which you can blow up when you arrive at the location). Some of the other props might be a bit more difficult, like the picture frames, bikes and other larger items. An example using some props, where we had an assortment of props ranging from balloons to teddy bears. I also photograph families all over Northern Ireland.
